VII International Summer School of Digital Humanities Opens

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University opened VII Summer School “Digital Humanities, Georgian Studies, Corpus Linguistics, Documentary Linguistics”. The aim of the school is to develop digital humanities in Georgia, teach/learn the main principles and methods of electronic documentation of language and culture, introduce Georgian international electronic resources, and develop the skills of the implementation of the field work.  BA, MA and PhD students of various universities from  Georgia, Romania, Turkey and Iran, in the frame of the interdisciplinary programme, will be introduced to multidisciplinary methods, tools and standards of digital humanities as well as achievements and prospects of development of digital humanities.  
 
Research staff of Georgian and European leading universities will deliver lectures and workshops on the issues of Documentary Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics. Manana Tandashvili, Dr. of Philology, Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt, Saloumeh Gholami, Dr. of Linguistics and Research Personnel of the Empirical Linguistics Institute of Goethe University Frankfurt, Robert   MacDonald Lowi, Research Personnel of the Centre of Applied and Corpus Linguistics  of Leeds University, Dr. of Philology and Sophiko Daraselia,  Head of the “Research Centre of Georgian and Caucasian Languages” of the University of Leads, Dr. of Philology will introduce the audience to the achievements of Digital Humanities, Corpus Linguistics and Documentary Linguistics.
 
The Summer School is focused not only on gaining theoretical knowledge but mastering practical skills and abilities in the participants. The knowledge acquired at the lectures and workshops will be applied during the expeditions arranged within the seasonal school where participants, with the supervision of the experienced experts, will be recording materials and systemizing the collected data with the help of the tutors. 
 
Together with the students, the Summer School this year, first time ever, will involve the students of the secondary schools. In the practical block the school representatives will prepare and conduct certification presentations with the help of the experienced tutors. 
 
VII International Summer School was opened by Deputy Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University-Tamar Siradze, Marina Giorgadze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, BSU Professor Ramaz Khalvashi, Head of the Summer School, Theona Beridze, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of Autonomous Republic of Ajara and Manana Tandashvili, Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt.
 
International School is being carried out with the financial contribution of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Autonomous Republic of Ajara and the support of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt.
