International School of Gerontology and Geriatrics Opens

An International School of Gerontology and Geriatrics has been opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The objective of the event is to get introduced to and popularize the available contemporary achievements in the field of the processes and mechanisms of ageing. Four-day School envisages teaching/learning new methods of treatment of the diseases associated with ageing and sharing the relevant experience. Researchers in Biology, medicine, social sciences and the field of the service and care of the ageing people as well as the experts and the students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of Gerontology, the issues of the social conditions of the old people from various countries and the social packages. The teaching/learning process will be led by the leading experts and researchers of the field from Georgia, Austria and Malta. In the frame of the seasonal school, a Charitable Medical Action will be arranged in the Hospital in Khulo (one of the mountainous regions of Ajara) on October 25.

In the frame of the Charitable Medical Action the old people from Khulo will be provided with the free medical consultations in the fields of neurology, endocrinology, orthopedics, urology, surgery, ophthalmology. Moreover, it is planned to carry out endoscopic investigation and consultations of the family doctor.  

Participants of the International Seasonal School will be awarded the certificates of the International Training.

The event is organized by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and International Institute of Ageing of Malta (INIA) in the frame of the sub-programme “Higher Education Support” carried out by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Autonomous Republic of Ajara”.
