
The Centre of Shota Rustaveli Culture of Istanbul, within the cooperation with Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, conducted the Conference dedicated to Shota Rustaveli and Georgian Culture at Beykent University on December 22. The conference was attended by Mr. Giorgi Tsetskhladze, the “Young Ambassador” of Georgia to Turkey, Ia Putkaradze, Representative of Consulate General of Georgia to Istanbul, Doctor of International Relations and Political Science, Representatives of Georgian Diaspora in Turkey from Istanbul, Duzce, Izmir, Ankara and Georgian students of various universities of Turkey.
The Conference was opened with welcome speeches made by Mrs. Salome Baramidze, Head of the Centre of Shota Rustaveli Culture, Mustafa Melek, Professor at Beykent University, Doctor of Science and Mr. Jemal Ananidze, Head of the Administration of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
The articles were presented by Marine Giorgadze, Professor of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (“Real Culture of Three Types of Georgian Alphabet”), Ramaz Khalvashi, Professor of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (“The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” by Shota Rustaveli and Georgian Culture of the Epoch of the Queen Tamari”), the Teacher at the University of Beykent, Doctor Ardahan Birol Kartal (“Actual Issues of the Turkish-Georgian Relations”), Marina Sulkhanishvili, lecturer at the University of Duzce (“The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” in Eastern Culture”).
Moreover, the presentation of the joint project of the Centre of Culture of Shota Rustaveli and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University-“Manuscript of the Knight in the Panther’s Skin” (the author of the initiative Prof. Ramaz Khalvashi) was held.
The students of the Department of Georgian Language and Literature of the Duzce University, under the supervision of Nana Kacharava, Associate Professor, presented a creative composition; they recited the lines and aphorisms from “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” accompanied with the key translation in Turkish by Nana Kacharava. The Strophes of “The Knight in the panther’s Skin” were also recited by the master of recitation, co-head of the Centre of Shota Rustaveli Culture of Istanbul - Orhan Beridze.
The Centre of Shota Rustaveli Culture of Istanbul organized the exhibition dedicated to Shota Rustaveli and Georgian Culture in the hall of the University of Beykent.
In the frame of the Conference the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and the University of Beykent concluded the Memorandum of Understanding.
On December 24 the Centre of Shota Rustaveli Culture of Istanbul hosted the meeting in the frame of the project “Manuscript of the Knight in the Panther’s Skin”. The Founders of the Centre- Baramidze S., Beridze O., Khimshiashvili G., Yelkenc (G. Diasamidze), Jemal Ananidze, Head of the Administration of BSU and Professors Giorgadze M. and Khalvashi R.- left the first handwritten strophes in the book printed and bound in the printing house of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
It was also planned to mark the day of “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin Manuscript” in Istanbul on December 24 of every year.
