The rector of BSU - Merab Khalvashi and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Georgia - Radu Liviu Horumba opened the Photo exhibition - “Summarising Cities, European Squares and their Histories” at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.

Catalan D. Constantine’s works are dedicated to the geographical area of the squares and aim at presenting cultural and anthropological aspects of the public squires of European well-known cities. The exhibition represents the urban squares of Europe from a different perspective. There were exhibited the photos taken with the professional drone.

An urban square is, quintessentially, a European historical and architectural phenomenon. Squares do not exist by themselves, but only at the center of settlements, determining the peculiarities of squares themselves.

The exhibition has two aspects: architectural and anthropological since squires are assumed to be places of residence where the community and the history of cities are blended. Squares are places that are not only limited to their buildings but also the history of these buildings and the people associated with them.

The exhibition “Summarising Cities, European Squares and their Histories” will remain open until July 13 at BSU.

The event is organized by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and the Embassy of Romania in Georgia.
