
Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University jointly organized a scientific picnic in Batumi. The scientific picnic was opened by Merab Khalvashi - Rector of BSU, Maia Khajishvili - Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of Adjara AR, Nino Tsereteli - Head of Department of the Development of Higher Education and Science of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia. The scientific picnic aimed to promote scientific research and innovation, to share the achievements of researchers with the general public.
The event also aimed to deepen international cooperation, increase researchers' motivation, to raise awareness of young people, students and schoolchildren in scientific research and innovation, bringing education, science, and culture closer to each other.
32 tents of Batumi Scientific Picnic served to: Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University; the Millennium Challenge Account of Georgia; Batumi Art Teaching University, Georgian Technical University, National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti; Akaki Tsereteli State University, Tbilisi State Medical University; Batumi Navigation Teaching University; Gori State University; BAU International University; Sukhumi State University and the University of Georgia. Participants of the event performed a science show, interactive science-entertainment activities. There was also held an exhibition of FAB LAB BSU - Industrial Innovation Lab projects and constructions, amusing quizzes and experiments. A documentary film "The Story of the Twelve Cloister" was also screened.
Within the framework of the scientific picnic the following professors and scholars were awarded the honorary diplomas for their contribution to the development of science:
1. Nodar Kakhidze, Senior Research Fellow at Niko Berdzenishvili Institute;
2. Neli Khalvashi, Chief Scientific Worker of the Institute of Phytopathology and Biodiversity;
3. Dodo Abuladze, Research Fellow at the Institute of Agrarian and Membrane Technologies;
4. Guram Chaganava, Professor of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences;
5. Paata Chaganava - Professor of Tourism Faculty;
6. Vladimer Baladze - Professor of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Education;
7. Aleko Kalandia, Professor of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Healthcare;
8. Enver Khalvashi - Professor of Faculty of Technology;
9. To the professors of the Faculty of Humanities: Marine Giorgadze, Nugzar Mgeladze, Temur Tunadze, Doctor of History Nino Dzneladze, Associate Professor Manuchar Loria, Ph.D.
students – Theona Abuladze and Sophiko Chkhartishvili for the monographic work – "Pontic Greeks in Adjara: the Past and the Present".
The Batumi Science Picnic was held within the framework of the “International Festival of Science and Innovation 2019”.
