Visit of USAID Basic Education Program Representatives to BSU

Nancy Parks, USAID Basic Education Program Director, Medea Kakachia, USAID Education Specialist, and Ana Abuladze, USAID Basic Education Program Coordinator paid a visit to Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The purpose of the meeting was to ensure the effective implementation of the USAID Basic Education Program at BSU. The guests met with the Deputy Rector of the University Tamar Siradze, representatives of the administration, and the program.

The USAID Basic Education Program (USAID) was launched by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Georgia in January 2020 and will last for four years. The program is funded by USAID and implemented by the Tripartite Research Institute - RTI International. Seven Georgian universities and two non-governmental organizations are involved in the program together with Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.

Under the program, a grant agreement was signed on July 9, 2020, according to which trainings will be conducted for primary school reading and mathematics teachers and principals in 326 public schools in Adjara and Guria region, to introduce student-centered teaching approaches. The training will be organized by the BSU Center for Professional Program Management and Continuing Education.

The program should ensure the progress of I-VI grade students in Adjara and Guria regions in the development of literacy, mathematics, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
