United Nations Children’s Fund Representative in Georgia Ghassan Khalil was awarded the BSU Honorary Doctor Title

The Academic Council of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University has awarded the title of Honorary Doctor to the UN Children’s Fund Representative in Georgia, Doctor of Law Ghassan Khalil. Ghasan Khalil made a significant contribution to the development of BSU and the upbringing of future generations. Witrh his initiative, the UNICEF Office in Georgia has been supporting the university in various educational activities for years. Under the leadership of Dr. Ghassan Khalil, the Center for the Rights of the Children was opened at BSU, an international conference on the rights of the children was held, a grant project was funded and implemented to strengthen the Center of the Rights of Children, trainings were provided to the academic staff on the issues of primary education teacher training and pre-school education.

 It is also planned to involve Dr. Ghassan Khalil in the BSU Master Programme of Education Administration and the Doctoral Programme in Education Sciences as a Scientific Supervisor.

Until September 2018, Dr. Ghassan Khalili served as Senior Advisor for the UNICEF Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, he was a Special Representative in Libya.  He has more than twenty-five years of significant professional experience in various fields, has held senior positions in governmental and non-governmental organizations at UN.  Dr. Ghassan Khalili is also an Independent Senior Consultant, University Professor, Researcher, and Training Expert.

Dr. Ghassan Khalili's wide range of scientific interests confirms his rich experience in cooperation with higher education institutions of different countries: human rights, women and children rights, cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, rights-based approaches and strategic management.  With Authorhip and co-authorship of Dr. Ghassan Khalil, more than 20 books and research papers have been published, including a monograph on the international historical evolution of children's rights.

Mr. Ghassan was engaged in scientific activities at various higher education institutions around the world, including: Sorbonne University- Abu Dhabi Branch, Algiers High School of Master, Dubai Institute of Law,  as a  visiting professor at Sultan Qaboos University (Omani),  at  the position of professor  in Master of  Management of Non-Governmental Organizations at La Sage University in Lebanon University.  Currently, he is leading master's theses at the UN Headquarters College and the University of Stellenbosch (Africa).

In addition to the above merits, Dr. Ghassan Khalili has worked as a consultant, expert and evaluator in projects funded by the United States, the United Nations (UNICEF, ILO, UNESCO), the European Union, and other international organizations or governments. Dr. Ghassan Khalil has represented his country, Lebanon, several times, at important events and meetings, both at the United Nations and in the League of Arab States. As an expert in competency-based education, in curriculum design and training methodology, he has developed a number of syllabi for universities in different countries.

Dr. Ghassan Khalil holds a Master of Laws of the University of Lebanon, a Master of International Business Law of the Sorbonne University in Paris, and a Doctor of International Law of the Sorbonne University in Paris. She has completed a Research Programme of International and Public Affairs at Masters School of Columbia University in New York, where she also gave lectures on children’s rights.
