A translation master class of translator Katya Wolters held at BSU under the auspices of the VIII International Literary Festival of Odessa

Within the framework of the VIII Odessa International Literary Festival, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted a translation master class of Katia Wolters, a translator, for the students of the faculty of humanities. The master class was on the topic: "Loss and Acquisition in Translation.”  The event was opened by Professor Marine Giorgadze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of BSU who also spoke about the importance of holding the literary festival. At an interactive event, translator Katya Wolters spoke to young people about the creative process of translation, shared her own experience and answered their questions. The master class was moderated by Mariam Corinteli, assistant professor of the Faculty of Humanities of BSU.

Katya Wolters is the 2022 “Saba” Prize laureate for her translation “The Books of Jacob” of Olga Tokarchuk.  Katya Wolters speaks several languages, she gives special importance to the sound of one or another language, working with rhythm and translating the text from her mother tongue to another language with appropriate sensitivity. She translated the works of Gabriel García Márquez and Jorge Luis Borges into Georgian.

The supporter of the VIII International Literary Festival of Odessa is Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi. At the press conference of the event, the deputy rector, Professor Tamar Siradze, emphasized the importance of the university's support and the participation of students and graduates in the festival. With the festival, another literary bridge of friendship and solidarity will be built between Ukraine and Georgia. Ukrainian, Georgian, German, Italian, Swiss, Polish, Romanian and South African writers participate in it.

The organizers of the festival are Peter Weiss Foundation for Art and Politics (Germany), Georgian Literary Initiative and Publishing House Books in Batumi. The festival is organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Germany), the German Ministry of Culture and Media, the Jan Michalski Foundation (Switzerland), the international literature festival Berlin (ilb), the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Batumi City Hall, Prohelvetia (Switzerland) and with the support of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
