Final meetings of the BSU delegation in the USA

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Rector Merab Khalvashi, Tourism Faculty Dean Irakli Kordzaia, Associate Professor Darejan Jashi, Assistant Professor Lia Davitadze and invited lecturer Mamuka Turmanidze held final meetings in the format of a working visit to the USA in Washington on February 13-14.

Meetings were held with the heads of the administration of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Among them: USDA Foreign Service Administrator Daniel Wheatley and USDA Senior Director of Foreign Service Otto Gonzalez. The members of the delegation got acquainted with the various activities of the Department of Agriculture and shared the projects and priorities of the USDA in the direction of agricultural extension in Ajara. USDA management has expressed its willingness to provide long-term and sustainable support. In particular, for support in the direction of agricultural education, implementation of new technologies and smart agriculture.

The purpose of the visit was to support extension services in the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, to create an extension university center on the basis of BSU, and to promote the development of agricultural education programs.

From the side of Georgia, the following participated in the meetings: Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Zaza Shavadze, Deputy Minister Ucha Surmanidze and employees of the Ministry, representatives of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA): Demna Dzirkvadze and Gocha Shainidze; Future Farmer Chairman Rusudan Gigashvili and project manager Natalia Kldiashvili.

The project is implemented by Farmer of the Future with support from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
