
Batumi Shota Rustveli State University celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Law. Dean of the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences Levan Jakeli spoke about the achievements and history of the faculty at the event. Rector of BSU, Professor Merab Khalvashi, congratulated the faculty on its anniversary and presented the honorary award of the university - the Shota Rustveli medal for the special contribution to the development of the legal direction. Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Davit Gabaidze, Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Maia Khajishvili, graduates, representatives of various higher educational institutions, business sector and society, professors and students congratulated the faculty of the anniversary, wished success and presented the gifts.
At the anniversary evening, the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, Levan Jakeli, presented certificates of gratitude to the representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, partner Georgian and foreign universities, professors, students, graduates and colleagues for their contribution to the development of the faculty.
The first stream of students enrolled in BSU educational programme of Law in 1991 and currently, the number of the graduates of BSU Faculty of Law exceeds 3,000, of which 400 were studying for master's degrees. The employment rate of BSU law programme graduates is one of the best in Georgia. The faculty already has dozens of international partners and is intensively involved in international activities.
On June 24-25, the university will host the International Society of Public Law (ICON•S Georgia) scientific conference "Challenges of Modern Public Law", organized in partnership with BSU, dedicated to the anniversary.
More than 100 speakers from Georgian and foreign universities will participate in the conference, there will be 4 plenary sessions with invited foreign and Georgian experts, 24 thematic panel sessions, book presentation and book exhibition.
The conference is organized by Shota Rustaverli State University of Batumi, USAID Rule of Law Programme and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara financial support.
ICON•S Georgia is a global academic organization that was established in Georgia last year and unites the academic staff of various Georgian universities, including BSU. The goal of ICON•S is to promote the development of public law in Georgia, promote research activities and strengthen international academic cooperation.
