Jean Monet Summer School - "Constitutional Democracy in the European Union: Main Challenges and Georgia" was opened at BSU

The Jean Monnet Summer School "Constitutional Democracy in the European Union: Main Challenges and Georgia" was opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. 30 students majoring in law, international relations, European studies and public administration from different universities of Georgia are participating in the summer school. The purpose of the four-day school is to provide young people with basic knowledge about EU institutions, mechanisms and processes in Georgia in terms of European integration.

The summer school was opened by the Rector of BSU, professor Merab Khalvashi, the Head of the Jean Monnet Department, professor Malkhaz Nakashidze, and the regional representative of the NATO and EU Information Center of Adjara, Irma Gabinashvili.

The summer school aims to: increase the awareness of Georgian citizens about European institutions and values important for Georgia;

Dispel the negative propaganda and myths spread about the European Union and the European integration process, and to form reasoned answers to them; to provide participants with fundamental knowledge about the main challenges facing the European Union and the prospects for overcoming them;

Inform students about the reforms and achievements implemented by Georgia in the direction of European integration; To provide the participants with information about the benefits and advantages that the European Union offers to Georgia and already have been benefited by the citizens of Georgia.

Within the framework of the Jean Monnet Summer School, students will visit the Constitutional Court of Georgia and the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara.

The summer school is held for the third year at BSU and is organized within the framework of the Jean Monnet Department "Core Values of the European Union: Democracy, Rule of Law and Protection of Human Rights", which is financed by the Jean Monnet Program of the European Union "Erasmus +".
