Professor Thomas Jonter is an honorary doctor of the university

The Academic Council of Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi awarded the title of honorary doctor to Stockholm University professor Thomas Jonter. Professor Thomas Jonter made a significant contribution to the development and internationalization of BSU. Professor’s contribution to the re-accreditation of BSU International Relations undergraduate educational programme and the development of International and Public Policy master's programme is special. He is one of the authors of the "Batumi Summer University" project, which is hosted by BSU for the eighth time and deals with current issues of global security.

The role of Professor Thomas Jonter in terms of the international aspects of the winning project "Open governance as a study of a new model of public administration reforming on the example of Georgia" within the targeted grant competition of BSU is invaluable. In order to develop the research skills of the members of the Department of Social and Political Sciences during the pandemic, with the involvement of Professor Thomas Jonter, online trainings were held on the topic - "Academic writing for researchers" and "How to publish research work in high-ranking journals".

The direction of Professor Tomas Jonter’s research activities is the international history of the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the issue of nuclear weapons control and non-proliferation. In this direction, the professor has participated in many international project, within the framework of which he cooperated with such institutions as: Woodrow Wilson International Research Center, Swedish Pugvash and others. The profesor’s scientific work is supported by research grants from various organizations, namely the Carnegie Corporation, the Swedish Research Council. Professor onter is the author of 5 monographs, 4 textbooks and numerous scientific articles.

Professor Thomas Jonter is a member of many organizations and boards, including the Swedish Commission for International Law and Disarmament, the Supervisory Board of the "Nuclear Education" program, and others. Professor Jonter also participated in the consultation process of the Swedish delegation at the review conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
