
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosts the Batumi Summer University on international security and global nuclear non-proliferation issues for the eighth time. The topics of the intensive three-day training course on global security, foreign policy and nuclear non-proliferation will be led by Georgian, Swedish, Dutch, Taiwanese, Ukrainian and English scholars and experts. The Summer University aims to increase the competence of professors and experts of the respective faculties of the universities in the issue of nuclear security and non-proliferation. The training course is conducted within the framework of the international project "Strengthening of Teaching and Research Capabilities in the field of International Security and Nuclear Non-proliferation in Georgia".
The following issues will be discussed within the Eighth Summer University:
- Global security and nuclear non-proliferation regime today;
- Some lessons for nuclear security and the world stemming from Russia's war against Ukraine and attacks on Ukraine's nuclear infrastructure;
- Georgia's response to US sanctions against Russia;
- Impact of misinformation on the nuclear field, case study of Ukraine;
- Security development in the Indo-Pacific region after Russia's invasion of Ukraine;
- Play (again) Sam! What will the future bring and how will the management of nuclear weapons and infrastructure be different this time?;
- NATO enlargement: case studies of Finland and Sweden;
- China's foreign and security policy and its consequences on the conflict in Ukraine;
- Human security versus state security: the humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons.
