Scientific conference "Black Sea at the Crossroads of Civilizations II"

The scientific conference "Black Sea Crossroads of Civilizations II" was opened in the framework of the scientific picnic "Blue Policy of the Maritime Country" at Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi. The two-day conference was opened and the participants were welcomed by BSU rector Merab Khalvashi, Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Maia Khajishvili, Head of the Science Development Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia Ketevan Kokrashvili, Mayor of Batumi Archil Chikovani, Deputy Head of the Science Development Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia Zaza Maruashvili, Professor of the University of Warsaw (Poland) Davit Kolbaia and Ostrava University (Czech Republic) professor Vicent Kopechak.

At the scientific conference, more than 200 participants from different countries will present reports in the fields of history, archaeology, ethnology, philology, linguistics, folklore, tourism, ecology, toponymy, religious studies, philosophy, architecture, law and other areas of the Black Sea region.

Within the framework of the "Blue Policy of the Maritime Country" picnic, Ketevan Kokrashvili, the head of the Science Development Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, presented a certificate of honor to the Mayor of Batumi, Archil Chikovani, for supporting the promotion of science and awarded successful researchers of BSU in the following nominations:

For active involvement in European grant projects:

Marine Aroshidze - professor of the Faculty of Humanities of BSU;

Madona Mikeladze - Associate Professor of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Education of BSU.

For a highly cited publication:

Zoia Sikharulidze - chief scientist of the Institute of Phytopathology and Biodiversity of BSU;

Aleko Kalandia - chief scientific employee of the Institute of Agricultural and Membrane Technologies of BSU.

For contribution to the development of Georgian sciences:

Nanuli Noghaideli - scientific employee of Niko Berdzenishvili Institute of BSU.

​The purpose of the conference is to present and share the latest researches carried out in various scientific disciplines in the countries of the Black Sea region to the international scientific community; Also, the convergence of scientists working in a common direction, which will contribute to their cooperation and development of joint projects in the future. Special emphasis will be placed on the reports prepared within the framework of the "Black Sea Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda" (SRIA) proposed and supported by the European Commission.

The main direction of SRIA is considered in the work program of the conference: response to the challenges of fundamental research of the Black Sea - "Black Sea Knowledge Bridge"; Developing products and solutions for the growth of the Black Sea Blue and forming clusters - the keys to the Black Sea Blue Economy.

The scientific conference is organized by the Niko Berdzenishvili Institute of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, the National Academy of Sciences of Romania and the Ovidius University of Constanta.
