The winter school "Political criteria for joining the European Union and Europeanization" was opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The school is held within the framework of the "Erasmus+" program, within the framework of the EU-funded Jean Monnet module "Political criteria for joining the European Union and the Europeanization of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine", which has been implemented at the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences from 2023. The module aims to promote the values of the European Union by promoting the development of research and teaching about the European Union. The coordinator of the module is Malkhaz Nakashidze, professor of BSU, Head of the Jean Monnet Department.

The winter school was opened by BSU Rector, Professor Merab Khalvashi, Professor Malkhaz Nakashidze, Head of the Jean Monnet Department, Levan Jackeli, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, Marina Giorgadze, Head of the Strategic Development and International Relations Department, and Irma Gabinashvili, Adjara Regional Representative of the NATO and EU Information Center.

30 students from different universities of Georgia, as well as students from Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova participate in the winter school.

The Jean Monnet Winter School at BSU was planned for the first time this year and will be held regularly in the following years as well.

The purpose of the five-day winter school is to give students basic knowledge about the EU accession process, and the program will pay special attention to such topics as: the history of EU enlargement, the Copenhagen criteria (political criteria), the association agreements of Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova with the EU, legal and political reforms, the ten most Common myths about the European Union, Russian propaganda against European integration and others.

Within the framework of the winter school, professors from Ukraine, Moldova, and Serbia are invited, who will share with the students the experience of the associated trio and the Western Balkan countries on European integration.

Students will be awarded international certificates for participating in the winter school program.
