BSU Hosts 8th Session of Europe’s Environment and Health Process

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted the 8th session of the Special Working Group of the European environment and health process. The forum was organized jointly by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Adjara Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, L. Sakvarelidze National Center for Disease Control and Public Health Public Health Center for the Adjara Autonomous Republic under the auspices of the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO / Euro). The Forum was dedicated to the preliminaries of the 6th high-level session of the European Environment and Health Care Ministerial 2017. Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Acting Rector Merab Khalvashi welcomed the Forum participants, introduced the University and suggested holding of the Ministerial 2017 at the premises of BSU.

The delegates who participated in the session were composed of Zsuzsanna Jakab, World Health Organization's Regional Director for Europe, Mr. Srđan Matić, Coordinator, Environment and Health at World Health Organization, Mrs. Elizabeth Paunovic, director of the WHO Environment and Health European Office, Bonn, Germany,  authorities, administrative officers and academics, representing  Georgian  Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs,  National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of the Adjara Autonomous Republic, Adjara A/R Public Health Center and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University,  officials,  representatives of European countries and the study area experts, delegates  from European countries.         

Over the last 15-20 years the policy agenda of the international relations puts increasing emphasis on the issues related to the environment and health. The environment and health care sectors have been assigned primary responsibility for human health and environmental policy-making, as well as for the development and implementation of the tools that provide for the sustainable development of the environment with the purpose of efficient monitoring and prevention of the environmental affect on the human health. 

ence, WHO European Regional Office initiated Intersectoral Governance: European environment and health process, which covers large-scale public health primary preventive approaches. The policy of "Health 20-20" is a response to the United Nations declaration on sustainable development goals. It represents the main platform for reaching of the goals; The 4th priority direction is creation of the supporting environment that ensures the sustainability and local communities. The pan-European process related to the Environment and health issues adopted important international agreements, resolutions, the Charter and the Declaration.
