President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili met the students of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University to deliver a public lecture on the Institutes of Democracy. President Margvelashvili and BSU Rector Merab Khalvashi signed the joint memorandum which means further development of the mass media and culture studies at BSU, and launching of a new BA program.
President Margvelashvili emphasized on the significance of strengthening of the democratic institutes, the role of the Constitutional Court, and Parliament elections - one of the major state institutes.
Mr. President talked about the campaign “Your Vote is our Future’, financed
through the reserve foundation and called on to make good on the civic responsibility.
‘I believe that when we go to the election precincts, we, as a result, will not get two clashing camps, two belligerent camps, which are planning to destroy each other. Instead, we will get several parties in the Parliament. The sociological surveys give us an optimistic outlook.
We will get a parliament which will be polyphonous as are the Georgian songs. There will be various opinions like various voices in the songs, which eventually shape uniformity. This will be a parliament of Georgian ideas.
I do not run in these elections, I, myself, am a voter, who is making a decision who to vote for. However, these are very important elections for me, as for a president. Because, as a voter and as a president I have one major demand: to have a parliament with a strong legitimacy.
Use your intellectual resource to call on everyone to take steps together for the further development of our country, and to make it happen on 8 October’, President of Georga was quoted as saying.
After the lecture President Margvelashvili answered the students' questions regarding the aspects of Georgian economic development, foreign policy and tourism.
