Prof. Livio Zebrini, Ferrara University, Italy Elected BSU Honorary Doctor

Academic council of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University elected BSU Honorary Doctor Professor Livio Zebrini of Italian Ferrara University. The professor of classical archeology Livio Zebrini Has contributed  to the Georgian studies  and in particular the Adjara archeology. He pioneered in establishing in Batumi an  "International Center for Black Sea Studies Studies" which will coordinate development and implementation of the Georgian-Italian joint research and educational programs.

The Professor Zebrini is actively involved in studying Gonio-Apsaros cultural heritage. Last year Prof.  Zebrini led the archaeological studies conducted in the central part of the castle. The expedition will be resumed this year.

BSU and Ferrara Universities signed Memorandum of cooperation in 2014. after which research and academic cooperation was further deepened. Prof. Livio Zebrini sponsored the Atskuri (Georgia) expedition, where a group of acheologists, headed by Prof. V. Licheli (Georgia) carried out excavations of the monuments dated back of the Roman period. Professor Zebrini published a monograph devoted to  the Roman Age of Colchis (in Italian).

Prof. Zebrini also sponsored 3rd year Georgian student of the Faculty of Humanities, Zviad Chkhenkeli to participate in the scientific seminar and workshop in Ferrara and Venice, where he studied contemporary and old architecture.

Livio Zebrini is a Professor of the Department of Humanities at the University of Ferrara and is a director of the course  Antique Studies. He is an adjunct professor at Sorbonne University and the director of the program Roman History and Classical Archeology at Cluj-Napoca University, Romania.
