A public lecture and field visit titled "Ecological Challenges in Batumi and Human Health" were held at BSU’s Center for Vocational Programs Management and Lifelong Learning.

The event was held in connection with World Environment Day and was led by Guguli Dumbadze, Associate Professor at BSU’s Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care and researcher in Environmental Science and Ecology.

The event helped raise ecological awareness among students. Participants learned about the primary issues regarding Batumi’s ecological state, the environmental impacts of coastal city development, the importance of wastewater management and the influence of environmental risks on public health.

As part of the practical component, modern portable equipment for environmental quality monitoring was demonstrated. Students also worked with real-time data using national and international air quality platforms, specifically air.gov.ge and IQAir.

Following the lecture and practical session, a scheduled field visit took place where students toured the Adlia Wastewater Treatment Plant. There, they observed modern wastewater treatment methods used in Batumi, including mechanical, biological and technological stages, water quality control systems and the ecological importance of sanitation infrastructure for protecting the urban environment and human health.
