The Academic Council of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University has awarded the title of an honorary doctor of BSU to Karl Kaser, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of History and Anthropology and Head of the Institute of History at the University of Graz. Professor Karl Kaser has considerably contributed to the development of the university and the upbringing of future generations. The name of the prominent scientist is related to the development of visual anthropology in the European scientific sphere and the research in the field at BSU. He is the author of 11 significant monographs and numerous scientific articles.

Professor of the University of Graz, Thomas Krausman delivered a speech at the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University on Europeanization of Criminal Law and its Role in Human Rights. Professor Thomas Krausman introduced to the students and professors of Faculty of Law and Social Science such important issues as the harmonization of Eastern European legislation, in particular, Criminal Law, with EU legislation, and its impact on human rights.

Estonian Ambassador to Georgia Kai Kaarelson, UNICEF Representative in Georgia Dr. Ghassan Khalil, Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of Adjara AR Maia Khajishvili and Rector of BSU Merab Khalvashi opened a conference on reforms in education at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of Adjara AR Maia Khajishvili spoke about the progress of educational reforms in Adjara, Estonian Ambassador to Georgia Kai Kaarelson shared the experience of the Estonian education system with session participants, and UNICEF Representative in Georgia Dr. Gassan Khalil drew attention in his report on the importance of children rights-based education. Lela Tavdgiridze, a BSU professor, presented a report on the results of UNICEF, Estonia and Georgia Partnership Program in Higher Education at the conference.

UNESCO - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has chosen 6 scientists from 6 countries around the world to elaborate an Open Science Strategy, amongst which is Izolda Machutadze, a senior researcher at the Institute of Phytopathology and Biodiversity of BSU. Within the framework of the event, the researcher took part in the UNESCO Forum on Science for Peace and Development and gave recommendations for consideration while developing the strategy. The strategy aims at introducing science advancements to the broader community and innovative entrepreneurs, who influence the development of economics, environment, and technology policy.

The English language program of the Doctor of Medicine of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University program has been successfully accredited.
