
The conference "Action Research to Innovative Science & Career Orientation" has been opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The conference is the concluding event of the ERASMUS + project ARTIST (Action Research to Innovate Science Teaching & Career Orientation).
The ARTIST project coordinator is Professor Ingo Eilks (University of Bremen), and the co-coordinator - Professor Marika Kapanadze (Ilia State University). Different higher education institutions are participating in the project from seven countries as follows: Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Israel, Turkey, the Philippines, and Georgia. The project aims at stimulating students' interest in science, increasing motivation to study natural sciences through practical training and improving the quality of teaching.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is one of the beneficiaries of the project (BSU coordinator Professor Rusudan Khukhunaishvili). The grant project involves the staff from the Department of Biology of BSU, coordinating the introduction of innovative research methods at university and public schools and the development of a new curriculum. The project involves biology and chemistry teachers from 9 public and private schools of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, as well as three enterprises and one NGO - “Flora and Fauna”. A regional network was established: School-Enterprise-University within the framework of the project.
To implement, the project packages (tasks), in particular: modeling lessons, workshops, masterclasses, € 43,000 worth laboratory equipment, and materials were purchased. This equipment will serve as a basis for introducing innovative methods of action research in a broader extent and for improving the methodology of teaching science at universities as well as public schools.
The conference will last until August 1, 2019.
