The IX School of Digital Humanities "Digital Rustvelology" has been Opened

The IX International Summer School of Batumi Digital Humanities "Digital Rustvelology" was opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Digital Rustvelology Summer School is held for the first time in Georgia and it is attended by up to 20 students from all three cycles of various higher education institutions of Georgia. The event aims at enhancing the theoretical knowledge of the participants, developing the practical skills that will enable them to get involved in the creation of "The Knight in The Panther’s Skin" multilingual parallel corpus.

The seasonal school is implemented in collaboration with BSU and the University of Frankfurt. The pilot version of "The Knight in The Panther’s Skin“ Parallel Corpus has been created in the Rustaveli Cabinet, established at the University of Frankfurt, in which 15 translations of the poem are presented.

The Summer School will offer the students the following interdisciplinary program:

 I. The theoretical block will be lectured by scientists from Europe (Germany) and Georgia (Tbilisi, Batumi), well-known experts in the field of digital humanities and digital literature, in particular, Rustvelology. Special attention will be drawn to the achievements and development prospects of digital Kartvelology; also, to the introduction of the Georgian and international electronic resources of this profile (ARMAZI, ECLinG, CauPal, SSGG, GeoPal, GDC, GNC, DigiArchive, Spoken BNC2014, ELDP-SOAS, BSU-DigiArchive) to the students. This block is intended for undergraduate and graduate students.

 II. The practical block envisages an international workshop on the creation of a technological framework for digital Rustvelology and digital linguistic-cultural archives. Professor Manana Tandashvili, head of Frankfurt University Empirical Linguistics Institute Caucasus Department, Dr. Armin Hohenen, Creator of the Conceptual Framework for the Prototype Version of the Parallel Translation of “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” ( "MPS" Translations parallel building prototype versions of the technological framework creator),  Dr. Mariam Kamarauli,  Translations parallel building prototype versions of the conceptual framework of the creator, digital Studies Specialist, and others were invited to conduct the workshop. This block is intended for doctoral and postgraduate students.
