
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted American media experts and representatives of the US Embassy in Georgia within the framework of the US Embassy’s Media Education Programme, implemented by the Organization WorldChicago from the American side. The return visit of the Georgian side took place after the training course in America and was intended to share the American experience with the representatives of Georgian media schools. Within the framework of the media education programme, a new joint Master’s Educational Programme “Digital Media and Innovations” has been prepared in cooperation between Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Tbilisi Iv.Javakhishvili State University; the programme is in the process of accreditation.
Delegation members: World Chicago president Peggy Panfenorf, MEDIA EDUCATION PROGRAMME (MEP) Director Dennis Metson, Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy Representative Sophio Bzishvili, Southern Illinois University Professor Nathan Carpentel, Director of the Southern Illinois State University School of Communications, Stephen Hunt, and the Director of the TV -10 University Television Lora Trendl Pulus met the BSU Rector Merab Khalvashi, Deputy Rector Anzor Beridze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Marine Giorgadze and Associate Professor Inga Shamilishvili.
At the meeting with the American media experts, the BSU Rector, Professor Merab Khalvashi talked about the importance of the Master’s Educational Programme focusing on the challenges of the contemporary media environment as well as the necessity of digital media education and sharing American experience. The Rector highlighted that the new programme elaborated with the support of the US Embassy and involvement and sharing recommendations of the professors of three various universities of the US, will encourage training of the professional staff in the region and it meets the challenges brought by digitalization of mass communication. The Rector expressed his gratitude to those who elaborated the programme in Georgia for their support in the development of media education and other various activities.
At the official meeting, professors of DePaul University of Chicago, Southern Illinois State University, media experts and Sophio Bzishvili, US Embassy representative in Georgia expressed their gratitude to Inga Shamilishvili, Associate Professor for the implementation of the new Master’s Educational Programme in BSU, who paid a two week visit to America in the frame of the media education programme. The president of the World Chicago Peggy Panfenorf,awarded Inga Shamilishvili with a MEDIA EDUCATION PROGRAM (MEP) certificate for contribution to the implementation of the porgramme and the successful participation in it.
In the frame of the visit, the American professors conducted masterclasses for the professors responsible for the implementation of the MA educational programme. They shared the programme elaboration models with Georgian colleagues and introduced them to innovations in the US education space. Moreover, Georgian side will be shared the syllabuses and the course books of the study courses. The new MA educational programme “Digital Media and Innovations” will be implemented on the basis of the Facuolty of Humanities at BSU.
