The final conference of the EU-funded Erasmus + KA2 program Raising Research Capacity of Georgian HEIs through Developing R&D Units – HERD was held at BSU. The conference was opened by Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Professor Merab Khalvashi, Project Coordinator, Deputy Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in the field of Science Nino Okribelashvili, representatives of project partners public institutions- Nunu Mitskevich, Deputy Minister of Education and Jaba Samushi, General Director of the Georgian National Foundation of Shota Rustaveli.
The project “Raising Research Capacity of Georgian HEIs through Developing R&D Units – HERD” united 12 higher education institutions of Georgia and 3 European universities and aimed to modernize the quality of research services of member universities, enhance research potential and quality, integrate teaching and research components on the institutional level.
Within the framework of the project, the portal of the Georgian scientific information system - GRIS.emis.ge was created, which offers relevant data on all aspects of scientific experience and potential in Georgia in the open to all who are interested in. The bilingual (in Georgian and English) portal informs stakeholders about the data on 12 HERD partner higher education institutions, their academic staff, researchers, doctoral students 'scientific productivity results, current and implemented grants and professional activities, and is the country' s optimal internal liaison mechanism as well as international. The portal is an open database-based system and is the largest open information database in Georgia.
The Georgian Scientific Information System Portal currently combines data from about 5,000 academic staff, researchers and doctoral students working in Georgia. Portal - as the Unified National Scientific Information System of Georgia, is open for further integration of resources and staff information on the basis of other higher education institutions, to perform the same function as, for example, the Estonian Scientific Information System - https://www.etis.ee/.
The portal promotes greater visibility about the scientific productivity of the registered institutions and Georgian scientists, both within the country and abroad, connecting with potential partners and local colleagues, expanding opportunities for joint research and project work.
The international partners of the project were Dresden University of Technology, one of the top 10 universities in Germany, involved in the project in research planning and management training; Clermont-Auvergne University with a strong research focus oriented sharing the relevant partner university experience in applied research and tech-transfer directions; and Cote d’Azur University, a higher education institution in 3 percent of the world's leading research universities, which assisted Georgian higher education institutions in developing research strategies and quality management.
