
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted the Presentation of the "Laboratory Health and Safety" of the vocational retraining program and the laboratory laboratory health and safety training laboratory equipped with modern equipment was opened. In the health and safety training laboratory, 10 local staff- trainers of the Ajara region were trained and a Georgian manual was created. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to train 250 trainees, among them, 50 trainees will be trained on the basis of BSU.
The event was opened and the Rector of BSU, Professor Merab Khalvashi, Minister of Health and Social Protection Nino Nizharadze, BSU Professor, project coordinator Rusudan Khukhunaishvili, TSU Professor, project coordinator Nino Inasaridze, representative of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health Ketevan Zaridze, representative of the State Agricultural Laboratory Jumber Adzumba, project coordinator, representative of the Association of Biotechnology of Georgia, Elene Cherkezia, spoke about the importance of the project. The presentation was also attended by professors, students and representatives of the project implementing organizations, the State Employment Promotion Agency, the Adjara Food Safety Service and non-governmental organizations.
The program will contribute to the expansion of teaching opportunities in the direction of continuous education in the region, ensures the strengthening of vocational skills, increases the employment opportunities of young personnel in the relevant fields: private and state laboratories, pharmaceutical, agro-food industry, health institutions, as well as educational institutions (universities, colleges, schools) with natural science directions (biology, chemistry, physics). It is also possible to use the laboratory equipped with modern equipment for educational purposes for students of biology and medicine and for biomedical research.
The professional retraining program was created with the support of the European Union within the framework of the ongoing project "Laboratory Health and Safety Continuing Education Courses for Young Professionals in Western and Eastern Georgia", which successfully passed accreditation.
The project aims to introduce laboratory health and safety vocational l training programs in four Georgian universities (Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Iacob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Akaki Tsereteli State University). The project will also promote the employment of graduates, in close cooperation with the employment agency.
Improving the skills of safe laboratory practices of personnel employed in laboratories of various profiles is one of the important challenges of the employment market, which was especially highlighted in the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, the accredited professional training courses operating in BSU "Laboratory health and safety are very important from the perspective of overcoming the challenges in this regard in the Ajara region
The project financed by the European Union is implemented by the national consortium: Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (coordinator), L. Sakvarelidze National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, State Laboratory of Agriculture, Biotechnology Association of Georgia. BSU represents one of the beneficiaries of the project.
The international partners of the project are: Universities of Milan and Teramo (Italy). It is a part of the European Union sector reform program "Support for the development of skills relevant to the needs of the employment market/skills for work, phase 2", which aims to promote the sustainable development of the Georgian economy through the strengthening of human resources and the development of professional skills.
