
As part of the USAID Education for the Future program, a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) workshop is being held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Associate Professor Elizabeth Frias, Deputy Director of Arizona State University's MLFTC Division, will discuss the key elements of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differences in differentiated instruction, and the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Framework: Inclusion, Presentation, Action and expression with the BSU professors. BSU Rector Merab Khalvashi opened the meeting, welcomed the participants and spoke about the importance of the USAID Education for the Future program.
In partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, the USAID Education for the Future program aims to increase the quality and inclusiveness of future teacher training programs, develop and strengthen the capacities of school administrators as educational leaders at various levels of school management, and strengthen school autonomy within the Georgian education system. System-level reforms will affect various stakeholders in Georgia's education sector, including university academic staff, prospective and current teachers, school administrators, and representatives of education resource centers.
The USAID Education for the Future program has selected four Georgian universities for long-term cooperation, including Shota Rustveli State University in Batumi, where, with the technical assistance of Arizona State University, it will support the development of teacher training and educational sciences programs.
In the frame of the USAID Education for the Future Five-Year Program:
- New courses will be developed based on Universal Learning Design principles;
- The component of school practice will be strengthened;
- Teaching and research skills of academic staff will be improved;
- Access to modern literature will increase;
- Involvement of university academic staff and students in local and international partnerships will be ensured.
