Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi hosted another session of the Board of Rectors. The session of the Board of Rectors was held under the leadership of the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, in which rectors and representatives of state and private universities took part. Within the framework of the meeting, the participants discussed various important topics. Among them, the following issues were discussed:

  • Summary of the 2023-2024 academic year - implemented reforms and results:
  • Doubling the number of scholars and the amount of the state scholarship;
  • Debt repayment of suspended students;
  • Measures taken to ensure access to students;
  • 3-year bachelor program;
  • Participation in international exhibitions;
  • Support for international accreditation of programs;
  • Second International Excellence School in Batumi;
  • Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF);
  • higher education financing model;
  • Various legislative changes, including distance learning.
  • Current issues and monitoring results related to authorization and accreditation;
  • Quality assurance mechanisms of doctoral educational programs.

The conversation also touched on topical issues raised by rectors and representatives of universities. The participants had the opportunity to receive comprehensive information directly from the minister on topics of interest to them.

The members of the Board noted that meetings in a similar format are very important both for the full implementation of the ongoing reforms at the level of higher education and for strengthening the rectors' involvement in the processes. According to them, the Council of Rectors provides the best opportunity for coordinated work with the Ministry, therefore, it is necessary to continue active cooperation in this direction.

It should be noted that on the initiative of the minister, in order to make effective decisions on ways to solve the existing problems, the meetings with the heads of the universities in the format of the board of rectors have a permanent character.

The meetings will continue in the future and will be held in all authorized public and private universities throughout Georgia.
