International summer school - "Intersectoral cooperation, technology transfer and innovation" was opened in BSU

BSU hosts the international summer school "Intersectoral cooperation, technology transfer and innovation" held within the international project "Innovation, Inclusive Education and Quality". The three-day summer school was opened and the participants were welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia Nodar Papukashvili, Tamar Sanikidze, Executive Director of the project “Innovation, Inclusive Education and Quality” Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Rector Merab Khalvashi, Batumi State Maritime Academy Rector Murtaz Devadze and Tatyana Fumasoli, Professor of the University College of London (UCL).

The summer school aims to train early-career researchers (e.g. PhD students, post-docs and researchers within 5 years of the award of a PhD) and academic staff in best practices in research management and innovation. The main task is to strengthen research capabilities in Georgian universities, to improve the quality of their research structures, processes and results.

BSU is involved in the international project "Innovation, inclusive education and quality" (executive director of the project, Tamar Sanikidze). The I2Q project, which is financed by the World Bank is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the consulting company - UCL Consultant. The project will support international academic and scientific cooperation, generation/sharing of new knowledge and creation of opportunities for rapid development in selected areas in accordance with the country's strategic priorities.

The activities of the international project (I2Q) are in line with the national strategy of education and science and are aimed at establishing partnerships with international research centers and universities, strengthening skills and competence, strengthening educational and scientific potential, promoting connections with the labor market, raising the level of English language skills, increasing the competitiveness of students and young researchers, supporting internationalization of higher education.

In the future, work is planned in three main directions:

 1. Developing a joint doctoral program in the direction of education and science with international partnership;

2. Development of entrepreneurship module and sectoral English language modules for undergraduate education;

3. The so-called International Excellence School – conducting international schools (summer/winter), which will strengthen the capabilities of the academic and scientific community in the direction of development of grant projects, technology transfer and innovation, as well as protection of intellectual property rights.

The first summer school was held at TSU: International Excellence School was held at Tbilisi State University and British University in order to promote the internationalization of higher education. The theme of the event included the following issues in the direction of education, humanities and social sciences: development of project proposals for grant competitions, best practices of management of competitive projects and financial aspects of competitive projects.

The summer school is organized with the support of the Batumi State Maritime Academy.
