Jean Monnet Chair ”The European Union’s fundamental values: Democracy, Rule of Law and Protection of Human Rights” is funded by European Commission in the framework of Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. Jean Monnet Activities are designed to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies worldwide.

The objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair at the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is promotion of teaching and research in the European Union’s core values: democracy, the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The specific objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair are:

  • Promoting the idea of European integration and the dissemination of European values based on EU teaching, research and activities;
  • Development of three EU-related subjects, integration into the undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University;
  • Initiate a dialogue on EU-Georgia related issues amongst stakeholders, students, academia, civil society, policymakers and other partners;
  • Promoting research and debate on the European Union, including through the publications of the Jean Monnet Chair;
  • Develop some of the skills needed by internationally qualified professionals such as: communication, teamwork, collaboration, conflict resolution, leadership etc;
  • Engaging young people (students, pupils, others) in the EU integration debate through annual conferences, public lectures and summer schools.
