Consul General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rashad Ismayilov visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The diplomat met Rector of BSU Merab Khalvashi to discuss prospects of closer collaboration in the areas of science and education between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Consul General visited clinics of stomatology, zoology cabinet, centre of the forensic investigation, court simulation hall, and Western Georgia’s regional chromatographic centre. Mr. Ismayilov also introduced himself with the services and ongoing projects at BSU. Consul General expressed willingness to support BSU educational and scientific initiatives.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted the international conference ‘Semiotics of Chaos and Cosmos’. The scientific conference featured four panels and 13 sessions. Almost 100 Georgian and international scholars presented papers during two days on the topical aspects of semiotics. The conference round table discussed the synergy as a future development of science.
The goal of the conference was the engagement of various scientific fields into the semiotic research and opening borders for lively communication among the scholars of linguistics, literary studies, psychology, religious studies, sociology, political sciences, culture studies, archaeology, mathematics, chemistry etc.

Professor Julian Alcala Gonzalez, Valencia Polytechnic University, School of Civil Engineering, Concrete Science and Technology Institute delivered public lectures at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University on the advanced approaches to the engineering calculations, heuristic optimization methods which offered solutions to the following problems:
Reinforced and prestressed concrete: Composite material.
•Optimize cost vs. weight.
•Discrete variables optimization (rebars).
•Traditional approach vs. heuristics: general purpose optimization methods.

Professor Julian Alcala Gonzalez dealt with the structural optimization problems of high-performance concrete structures, e.g. precast U-girder bridges and precast pedestrian box bridges.

The cycle of public lectures was sponsored by the Ministry of Adjara AR Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, and organized by the Faculty of BSU Faculty of Technologies.

The Cultural Affairs Officer Damian Wampler, Dr. Micaela S. Iovine, Senior Program Officer, the Fulbright Scholar Program, United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, William C. Frick, associate professor in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education at the University of Oklahoma, Core Fulbright US Scholar at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, visited BSU.
The introductory session focused on the opportunities of cooperation and implementation of the joint projects. The delegates introduced themselves to the BSU educational programs and the University life. BSU Vice Rector Inga Shamilishvili gave welcome gifts to the delegates of the US Department of State.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted a joint workshop of BSU administration and educators and delegates from the Magdeburg University and GIZ – International Cooperation Society of Germany. The parties discussed details of the dual vocational education program.

The workshop participants also discussed the launching of the dual MA program in administration and management of the vocational education. The program will allow MA students of BSU to earn the equal number of credits in Germany and in Georgia.
