Ms. Salome Baramidze, the Chairperson of the “Shota Rustaveli Centre of Culture” of Istanbul, together with Deputy Chairperson Mr. Orhan Beridze visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. At the meeting, which took place at the Centre of Georgian Studies of BSU, the visitors, Mr. Merab Khalvashi, the Rector of BSU, Professors, Teaching staff, Students and other representatives of the community, discussed the objectives and tasks of the organization. Moreover, they defined the directions of the future cooperation and planned the implementation of the joint events.

“Shota Rustaveli Centre of Culture” of Istanbul was founded in Istanbul by the ancestors of Georgian Muhajirs in 2017. The library established on the basis of the centre preserves the unique materials such as: translation of the “Knight in the Panther’s Skin” in 30 different languages, books, magazines and films.

12 international students will be studying at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University during the Spring semester in the frame of the exchange programme. Spanish, Turkish, Kazakh, Romanian and Azerbaijanian students will continue their studies at the educational programmes at the Faculties of Education, Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, Economics and Business and Tourism. BSU Deputy Rector, Professor Tamar Siradze, Mr. Giorgi Tavamaishvili, the Head of the Strategic Development and International Relations Department, together with Mr. Elshen Mamedov, the Deputy Rector of Nakhchivan University met the international students and wished them success.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is the winner of the student competition “I am an Agro-journalist”. The team of 21 students from five regional universities participated in “The Recourse Centre of Journalism” and „USAID REAP” project. The participants of the competition made a 3 minute film on agricultural enterprises in Georgia financed by “USAID”. Based on the jury decision the first place was given to the film on the plastic box production enterprise –“Agroexport”, made by the BSU students: Maria Mamuladze, Ana Nikabadze, Mariam Tsetskhladze and Iago Palavandishvili. The BSU students were given the special „USAID REAP” award which envisages three month paid internship in the regional television. The project was aimed at creating possibilities for the young journalists interested in agricultural issues and their encouragement.

The representatives of the International Centre of Education introduced Hungarian and French scholarship programmes to the BSU students. The event was attended by Terry Burte, Attache for Scientific and University Cooperation of the French Embassy and Aniko Farkas, the Deputy Mission Head of the Embassy of Hungary. The students were provided with the information about “Stipendium Hungaricum“ the Scholarship Programme of the Hungarian Government which aims at financing the education of 80 Georgian citizens in higher education institutions of Hungary. The financing programme includes monthly scholarship, accommodation and health insurance until the completion of the whole education course. The partners of the programme are: Tempus Public Foundation from Hungarian and International Education Centre from Georgian side.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted an official closing ceremony of a long-term education programme of a Practicing Agronomist implemented in the frame of USAID/REAP project. USAID Deputy Mission Director Thomas Morris and the representatives of the organization met Mr. Merab Khalvashi, the Rector of the University, learnt about the education programmes of the university and visited the labs and clinics opened with the support of the United States Agency for International Development. The participants of the education programme were awarded with the certificates by Mr. Avtandil Meskhidze, the Minister of Agriculture of Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Mr. Merab Khalvashi, the Rector of the University and Mr. Thomas Morris, the USAID Deputy Mission Director.
