The international Doctoral school in digital humanities started the first selection round at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The international Project is implemented jointly with the Goethe University and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The project aims to introduce the innovative research methodology and training of the young scientists, which will contribute to the development of the digital humanities in Georgia.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted a meeting which dealt with the implementation of child protection referral procedures. The international event was arranged in partnership with UNICEF and was sponsored by the European Union. The event was opened by the Rector of BSU Merab Khalvashi, who spoke about the values of prevention of the violence against child and introduction and implementation of the referral procedures in the Adjara region. UNICEF supports the government of Georgia to implement and expand the project coverage. The government of the Adjara Autonomos Republic and Association of the Georgian Workers, and the National Violence Prevention Network will collaborate for the startup of the child protection referral procedures. The referral mechanisms have been introduced to all the government agencies, school security officers, public and private educational institutions, and the municipalities. Under the project, the meeting was attended by UNICEF Representative in Georgia Laila Omar Gad.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted the final conference of the Addictology Development Project ADDIGE / TEMPUS. BSU Rector Merab Khalvashi, Ajara A/R Minister of Health Care and Social Affairs Zaal Mikeladze, Vice Rector Natia Tsiklashvili and Vice Rector Tamar Siradze, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences Marina Koridze attended the conference.
The Project facilitates the development of the new undergraduate and graduate programs and their successful implementation. BSU and GIPA developed a joint Master’s curriculum which is awaiting accreditation.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Rector Merab Khalvashi. Vice Rector Natia Tsiklashvili, Vice Rector Tamar Siradze, professors of the Faculty of Natural Sciences discussed prospects of future cooperation with the delegates from the ’Green Seafood’, a fish processing company in Norway.
The parties will sign the memorandum of understanding, which will support training of the future professionals for the fishery industry. The trainings will be held jointly at the faculties of Health Care and Natural Sciences.
Through the collaboration project, BSU will work closely with the Norwegian universities, high schools and companies to exchange students.
‘Green SeafFood’ consortium is going to invest in Kobuleti and launch a pilot project of Norwegian salmon processing farm. The project envisages new technologies and fish production with the organic food.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Institute of Phytopathology and Biodiversity scientists presented a report on the scientific research work for 2016., The presentation was attended by the University rector Merab Khalvashi, Minister of the Adjara AR Agriculture Lasha Kobakhidze, Deputy Rector of BSU Natia Tsiklashvili and the Head of the BSU Administration Jemal Ananidze.The scientists presented the research outcomes of the biodiversity studies covering the orange geno-fund, rare and endangered species adapted to the local conditions, hybrids revealing and studying, their protection and maintenance. The research results also dealt with dozens of rare orange species and over 20 species of nut obtained in the framework of the expedition. The scientists also reported on the more than 80 apple and pear varieties and kiwi cultivation three- year plan in the highlands, which they described in their research of the fruit diversity in the Adjara seaside area and the highlands, biologically active substances in the local and introduced flora species, their cytotoxic effects on tumor cells.
