At the initiative of the “Research Center for the Spread of Science and Academic Culture in the Black Sea Region” established at the Faculty of Humanities of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, an open lecture was held on the topic: “Global Networks of Exchange: The Caucasus in the History of Photography” The lecture was delivered by Professor Dominik Gutmayer-Schnur of the University of Graz, whose research interests include the history of Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, especially visual anthropology. The participants were introduced to unique examples of Caucasian photo art, where Georgia and other corners of the Caucasus were recorded for the first time.

On October 18-20, the international scientific conference “New Horizons of Interdisciplinary Research II“, organized by the “Research Center for the Dissemination of Science and Academic Culture in the Black Sea Region”, was held at BSU. About 100 scientists from Austria, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Poland, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Finland, Canada, Kazakhstan and other countries participated in the conference. The participants heard interesting reports in the following sections: New Horizons of Linguistics, Translation and Intercultural Communication, Literary Theory and Comparative Literature, Society and Contemporary Challenges, Philosophical Thought of the 21st Century, Ethno - History - Contemporary Challenges.

Fulbright Scholar Lilly O’Toole will visit Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Faculty of Law and Social Sciences for a 9-month research visit. Lilly will conduct the research at the invitation and hosting of the Jean Monnet Chair (EUCONST), professor Malkhaz Nakashidze. After graduating from the top public school of public health in the US - the University of North Carolina, she spent the subsequent year living and working in Riga, Latvia. During her current project, Lilly will be exploring the mass exodus of migrants in Batumi since Russia`s full scale invasion of Ukraine and the implications of this new community on the receiving Georgian society within the context of its struggle toward a European future. She plans to connect with both the local and migrant community in an intentional way that upholds participatory practices and methods.

Presentation of international exchange programs was held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Head of the Department of Strategic Development and International Relations of BSU Marine Giorgadze and chief specialist Lela Tavartkiladze introduced the students of bachelor`s, master`s and doctoral programs of various faculties to the "Erasmus+" and other exchange programs announced for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program, Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi has launched an important international project CARE SEA - "Collaboration and raising awareness of a pollution-free and ecologically clean Black Sea" on the pollution of the Black Sea and its impact. The project aims to study the problem of environmental pollution, reduce pollution of the Black Sea and promote ecological sustainability, which will be implemented in partnership with higher educational and research institutions of 5 countries.
