Irine Pilvere, Rector of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Merab Katamadze, Director of the Field Study and Trainings and Voldmars Bariss, Head of the International Cooperation Centre had a meeting with the Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Prof. Merab Khalvashi. The aim of the meeting was to deepen the cooperation between the HEIs and elaborate future plans in this regard. The parties agreed to implement joint study and research programmes and conduct joint conferences. Moreover, it was planned to work on the project within the Erasmus+exchange programme in the frame of which the partner universities will conduct trainings for the students and the professors.

Aurora Patei, representative of International Relations Office, International Project Unit Manager at the University of Rouen in France and Salih Akim, prof. of the Science and Communication of Languages visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University in the frame of the Erasmus+exchange partnership programme. At the meeting with prof. Tamar Siradze, Deputy Rector of BSU and the representatives of the Strategic Development and International Relations Office as well as the Professors and the teaching staff, the parties defined the fields of future cooperation and planned to hold joint summer schools and implement joint educational projects.

Batumi Shota State University was visited by the delegation of China. The visit was organized by Tornike Rizhvadze, Chairman of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara and the Georgian-China Friendship Association. In the frame of the visit, Prof. Merab Khalvashi, BSU Rector, Mr. Davit Ebralidze, Director of the Georgian-China Friendship Association and FU Hongyuan, Prof. at Changsha University of Science and Technology signed the Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement considers the implementation of the joint exchange programmes for the students, professors and the teaching staff as well as the study and research projects. It was planned to send 100 students from the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, in particular those from the mountainous regions, to the Changsha University of Science and Technology in the frame of the “Belt and Road” initiative project.

Following the agreement between the parties the Confucius Institute will be established in BSU. Moreover, it is planned to elaborate joint PhD Educational programmes, carry our research projects, held conferences, summer school and seminars. The Memorandum also envisages the exchange of the study, research and methodological literature and sharing the experience in management of the research works.

Mr. Mikheil Batiashvili, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mr. Tornike Rizhvadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Prof. Merab Khalvashi, Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University met the students and the teachers and professors of BSU. The Minister introduced the students to the new initiatives planned in the higher education and made a positive evaluation of the study and research and the infrastructural projects implemented in the University.

The meeting was followed by the dialogue between the guests and the students. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mr. Mikheil Batiashvili answered the students, professors and the teachers’ questions.

In 2018 Batumi Shota Rustavelli State University passed through the authorization process successfully. Moreover, BSU is ranked as number three University amongst the other higher educational institutions as the highly demanded by the students. It is also the third university in accordance with the statistics of participation in the exchange programmes. What is more, the construction works of the student dormitory, the Institutes of Phytopathology and Biodiversity will be finalized in the nearest future.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted the delegation of the Embassy of Korea. Mr. Kim Se Woong, Charge D’Affaires, prof. Tamar Siradze, Deputy Rector and prof. Natia Tsiklashvii, Deputy Rector of BSU talked about the future cooperation and the related plans. Following the agreement between the countries the study Course of Korean Language has been launched in BSU. Moreover, the parties agreed on signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the BSU and higher educational institutions of Korea as well as elaboration of study and research projects and implementation of exchange programmes.
