The Faculty of Tourism of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is organizing the summer school ‘Sustainable Development of Tourism in Villages”. The event is taking place in the frame of the project named “Sustainable Tourism: Industry and Cultural Heritage in villages”. The aim of the summer school is to encourage internationalization, implementation of joint student projects and sharing international experience. The Summer School involves the professors and the students from Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, the University of Southeast Norway (USN) and Kyrguzstan University, Akaki Tsereteli State University and Maritime academy of Batumi.

On June 25-29 professors and teaching staff will present the articles and the students will conduct team presentations on the issues related to the sustainable development of tourism in villages.

In the frame of the event the participants of the Summer School will be introduced to the tourism potential of Ajara region.

Dessislava Ivanova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Georgia gave a public lecture “Bulgaria and European Union” at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The representative of the Corps Diplomatique introduced the results of the Republic of Bulgaria chairmanship of the EU council to the students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Bulgaria joined European Union in 2007 and became the chair of the European Union first in 2018.

Dessislava Ivanova talked about the relations between Georgia and Bulgaria as well as made a focus on visa free regime and the requirements of integration in the European Union. At the end of the lecture the speaker responded to the questions addressed.

International Scientific Conference “the Oldest Metallogenic Hearth (Ajara) of Georgia –the Ancient Findings, Contacts with Eastern Civilizations, Innovations, and Prospects” opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Georgian and International scientists have been presenting the scientific articles on the archeological excavation and research results during 4 days. The international session is being organized by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Ajara Museum, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Autonomous Republic of Ajara and the Institute of Oriental Studies of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

Head of the Research Support Service of BSU Tamar Machutadze visited the University of Montpellier in France in the frame of ERASMUS+programme. One week stay at the Department of the Research and PhD Management aimed at sharing the experience of the Research and PhD Management Department of the University of Montpellier.

42 students of the Faculty of Tourism of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University left for Germany where they will be having practice in high class hotels in Germany for 3 months to learn how all key structural units of hotels function. Besides gaining theoretical knowledge, the students will get involved in everyday activities of the hotels. Moreover, they enhance the practical skills and competences that will provide them with opportunity in terms of successful employment on international tourism service market.

The mentioned practice is ensured by the memorandum concluded with the Schwerin Baltic College of Germany and the financial support of the Municipality of Batumi.
