Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted a visit of the Rector of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse (Bulgaria), Prof. Hristo Beloev, Prof. Stoyanka Smrikarova Coordinator of the Erasmus+exchange programme and Prof. Angel Smrikarov. The visit took place in the frame of the Erasmus+mobility programme in the frame of which the visitors met the Rector of BSU, Prof. Merab Khalvashi and Inga Shamilishvili, Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara. The sides talked about the future plans, implementation of the joint projects and signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

In the context of the visit Bulgarian Professors conduced a public lecture “Innovative Technologies of Education-Virtual Environment of Education” for the students and professors of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Education. In parallel the meetings were held with the staff of the Department of Strategic Development and International Relations of BSU. Presentations on the educational and exchange programmes of the university were given too.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University has been paid a visit by the professors from the Angel KanchevUniversity of Ruse (Bulgaria) and the University of Alcala (Spain) in the frame of the ERASMUS+academic staff mobility programme. Professors Diana Zhelezova-Mindizova and Tsvetelina Harakchiyska carried out the working group meeting with the colleagues from the Department of European Studies of the Faculty of Humanities and conduced lectures during one week for the students of the English Philology. Spanish Professors Angel Luis Remon Clemente and Panufnik Marta Agnieszka gave lectures and practical activities, during one week, in the field of the Inclusive Sport with the support of the Department of the Student Career Development, Culture and Sport.

In the frame of the visit the meetings with the representatives of the Department of Strategic Development and International Relations were held. Moreover, the presentations on the existing educational and exchange programmes of the University were conducted.

In the frame of the EU grant „ERASMUS+ European Union“ project “Assisting Better Communication” (ABC) Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted the public lecture “Auditory Verbal Therapy (elaboration of the “listen” to be able “to speak” skill) by Isabel Monteiro da Costa, Lecturer of the School of Health at the University of Aveiro, Doctor of Medicine in the field of Psychology of Development. The students of the Educational Programmes of Education, Medicine and Psychology were exposed to following actual issues related to the speech and language therapy: what can we expect from a child born with hearing loss? What are the conditions for producing the actual language? Access to the sound, Meaningful interaction with those who use the language.

The aim of the project „Assisting Better Communication"- ABC) is to develop the profession of the Speech and Language Therapy in the project partner countries (Israel, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina) through offering quality courses and programmes at various levels of the professional development. Besides Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University the project involves other partners from Georgia including: Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), Georgian Portage Association (GPA) and non-profitable Organization “Step Forward”. The project was launched on 15 October 2016 and will last until October 14 2019.

The public lecture was organized by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and one of the partners of the project “Step Forward”, non-profitable organization.

Pierre Clouet, Advisor to the Ambassador of France in Cooperation and Cultural Events, Director of the French Institute met Prof. Merab Khalvashi, Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University in the frame of the Days of Francophonie. The aim of the meeting was to deepen the cooperation between the universities and support implementation of the mutual Educational Programmes. The sides also talked about issuing double diplomas together with the French Higher Educational Institutions as well as creation of the consortium. Moreover, the focus was made on support of popularization of French language and the further development perspectives.

Professor of Baltic University of Applied Sciences of Schwerin and Berlin, Managing Owner of “Solutions Holding GmbH” Mr. Stephan Gerhard was awarded the status of an Honorable Doctor by the Academic Board of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Professor Stephan Gerhard contributed a lot to the development of BSU via strengthening educational and research projects in Tourism, supporting internship programmes in Germany for students as well as for the teacher and the professors of Tourism Faculty of BSU.
