70 students of the Faculty of Tourism of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University will leave for professional practice in Germany. Rector of BSU, Merab Khalvashi, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of Autonomous Republic of Ajara Aleksandre Davitadze and Rostom Beridze, Head of the Department of the Hospitality Management of the Faculty of Tourism congratulated the young people on winning in the project and wished them success. The students will have 3 month period practice in high class hotels in Germany and get introduced to operation of all key structural units of hotels.

In the frame of the German Economic Association (DWV) Juliana Shuler, Manager of the Eastern/ Central Europe and South Caucasus “Senior Experts Service“ (SES) projects and Maria Bregadze, Project Manager had a meeting with the Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Merab Khalvashi. The parties talked about the role and importance of SES in the Georgian-German relations and the educational context. In the frame of the memorandum German experts will be conducting lectures in various directions at BSU from the new academic year.

President of San Diego State University Adela De La Torre and Halil Guven, Dean of San Diego State University in Georgia visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. At the meeting with the Rector of BSU, Merab Khalvashi and Dean of the Faculty of Technologies Gizo Partskhaladze the implementation of the joint educational and the exchange programmes for the BSU and San Diego University students was planned. In the frame of the visit the delegation was introduced to the specifics of operation of the Chromatography Center and the Industrial Innovative Lab existing within the faculty.

Ingrida Levrence, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Georgia visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. During the induction meeting with Prof. Merab Khalvashi, Rector of BSU, the Representative of the Diplomatic Corps talked about the future cooperation and the existing friendly relations between the two countries. The parties agreed to deepen the relations with Higher Education Institutions of Latvia, implement joint educational programmes in the tourism field, support the student and the academic staff mobility in the frame of the Erasmus+exchange programme and arrange cultural events. On July 10 BSU will be hosting the exhibition dedicated to the Day of the Republic of Latvia.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted the presentation of the publication in Georgian language of the book “Small Places, Large Issues” (Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology) and a public lecture on the topic “Why Anthropology is More Important Today, then Ever.” Thomas Hylland Eriksen, professor at Oslo University introduced the students as well as the academic staff and teachers to the actual issues of the modern anthropology and the studies. The book was translated and published in the frame of the higher education support programme of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara.
