On December 11-12, Ilia State University hosted the first international conference "Third mission role in universities - local and global perspective". The conference was held within the framework of the institutional development project "Strengthening the quality and relevance of the third mission in Georgian universities" (SQUARE) funded by the European Commission.
A presentation of educational programs of the US Embassy was held for students and professors at Shota Rustaveli State University in Batumi. Coordinator of exchange programs of the US Embassy in Georgia, Thea Kuchukhidze, and Manager of Public Diplomacy Grants, Ana Kharibegashvili, introduced the educational and cultural grant programs of the Embassy to the interested persons and consulted on the programme and technical issues of the grants.
Rector of BSU Merab Khalvashi, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Irakli Kordzaia, students of the Faculty of Tourism: Ketevan Mgeladze and Zhana Chkhikvadze Together with the Head of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Tinatin Zoidze, took part in the first international conference "Trends and challenges of sustainable development of resorts" organized by the "Resorts Development Agency". The conference was opened by the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili. In the speech, the minister talked about the need to develop resorts in Georgia and the importance of using the potential of this sector as much as possible and correctly, and the role of the state in this process.
The Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University delegation, consisting of Merab Diasamidze, Head of BSU Administration, Professor Natia Tsiklashvili, Associate Professor Nato Jabnidze and Assistant Professor Giorgi Katamadze, was at Wroclaw University of Economics and Business in Poland from November 28 to December 2. During the visit, meetings were held with the Rector of the University, Professor Andrzej Kaleta, Director of the Simulation Center Krzysztof Nowosielski, Director of the Business Cooperation Center of the Wroclaw School of Economics and Business Alaa Witwicka-Dudek, and Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Lower Silesia Marshal`s Office, Krzysztof Khodun. At the meetings, it was planned to implement innovative projects that, in addition to the educational sector, will contribute to the development of the business direction.
Professor Malkhaz Nakashidze, the Jean Monnet Chair of the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, was awarded the Jean Monnet Research Fellowship based on an international competition. In the academic year 2023-2024, Malkhaz Nakashidze will work in the Robert Shuman Centre of Advanced Studies of the European University Institute (EUI) (https://www.eui.eu ) in Florence, Italy, on the research „Stable Institutions as the Key Criteria for Accession of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine in the European Union“ (https://www.eui.eu/people?id=malkhaz-nakashidze ). The Jean Monnet Fellowship is one of the prestigious fellowship and it is awarded to scholars who will actively participate in the research activities of the Robert Schumann Centre for Advanced Studies and the research proposal should fit well with one of the Centre’s main research themes, programmes and projects.
