“German Casuistry Method in Criminal Law”

Prof. Thomas Crusmann, an Honorary Professor of BSU, delivered a lecture on ‘German Casuistry Method in Georgian Criminal Law’ for the law students in BSU. The lecture aimed at teaching based on the analyzing a casus with the German methodology of comparison-based legal analysis on the example of the Anglo-Saxon precedent law and an infamous case in the German criminal history.The lecture was followed by the discussion on how the actions of the Acting Chief of Police Department should be viewed, i.e. the threat of torture made towards the suspect in attempt to extort the information about the location of the underage hostage.
The close relationships between the Georgian and German legal experts formed the basis for the lively discussions of the German doctrinal theories in the Georgian scientific legal literature. The university expressed its readiness to introduce the long-term programme on methodological teaching of German Law. The objective of the intensive seminar is to assess the prospects of the idea of methodological teaching of the German law; the seminar shall also determine the possibility of teaching Georgian Criminal Law through the German Causistics in universities.
