Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University held a seminar through the Tempus-EU project: "Promotion of the internationalization of higher education institutions in neighboring Eastern countries, cultural and structural changes - PICASA". The task force of the project introduced to the professors of the higher education institution the enforcement issues of the development of internationalization elements at the university, curriculum, student exchange and cooperation with foreign universities etc. The international project aims to promote inter-cultural and international perspectives, initiatives and the quality assurance.

Delegation from Lower Silesia (Poland) visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Carol Przywara, Director of the International Affairs Division at the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Marshal`s Office, Wojciech Bilinski, Director of the Tourism, Sport and Recreation Department at the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Marshal`s Office, Alexandra Mirovska-Pialukha, Coordinator of the International Cooperation at the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Marshal`s Office, Irina Tkeshelashvili, Director of the Eastern Markets Department at the Silesian Chamber of Commerce met Merab Khalvashi, Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, vice rectors and deans of the BSU faculties. During the visit of the Lower Silesian delegation the parties discussed educational and research projects, joint undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs and exchange programs.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted XXXV Republic-wide conference on Dialectology, dedicated to the 80th jubilee of the University. The conference was opened at the Shota Rustaveli Hall. The scientific session aimed to present the outcomes of the extensive field expeditions throughout Georgia and summarize the results of the research. The conference speakers arrived from various higher education institutions across Georgia, including professors, researchers, experts and young scientists. The conference was organized jointly by the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics at Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University dedicated to the BSU’s 80th anniversary a ceremony of awarding Honorary Doctorates. The Academic Council of the higher education institution decided to award seven outstanding local and international professors honorary doctorates: Professor Elguja Medzmariashvili, Academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of the military and technical sciences, Professor of the Georgian Technical University, Schwerin Baltic University Professor Gerald Wetzel, Professor Revaz Sturua, Member of the Georgian Engineering Academy, President of the Georgian Mining Society, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Ph.D. Robert Edward Bolton, Emeritus of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Food and Environment Research Agency, Executive Director of the Center for Innovation, Emeretus Professor Charles Renoux, French Kartvelologist, Professor Tengiz Gloveli, head of the Charité Physiology Study Laboratory, Berlin, and Professor Thomas Kruesmann Kazan Federal University.

The 80th anniversary of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University was festively celebrated at the hotel “Sheraton Batumi”. The ceremony opened with the Acting Rector Merab Khalvashi’s speech on the history, achievements and development prospects of BSU. The guest speakers included Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze, Chairman of the Government of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Archil Khabadze, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Avtandil Beridze, Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Adjara Autonomous Republic George Tavamaishvili, Batumi City Mayor George Ermakov, delegates from the universities, alumni, students, foundations, international organizations, diplomatic corps delivered congratulatory speeches at the anniversary and rendered many memorable gifts.
