Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosts the Batumi Summer University on international security and global nuclear non-proliferation issues for the eighth time. The topics of the intensive three-day training course on global security, foreign policy and nuclear non-proliferation will be led by Georgian, Swedish, Dutch, Taiwanese, Ukrainian and English scholars and experts. The Summer University aims to increase the competence of professors and experts of the respective faculties of the universities in the issue of nuclear security and non-proliferation. The training course is conducted within the framework of the international project "Strengthening of Teaching and Research Capabilities in the field of International Security and Nuclear Non-proliferation in Georgia".

The Academic Council of Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi awarded the title of honorary doctor to Stockholm University professor Thomas Jonter. Professor Thomas Jonter made a significant contribution to the development and internationalization of BSU. Professor’s contribution to the re-accreditation of BSU International Relations undergraduate educational programme and the development of International and Public Policy master`s programme is special. He is one of the authors of the "Batumi Summer University" project, which is hosted by BSU for the eighth time and deals with current issues of global security.

According to "Webometrics" research, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is in the top five of Georgian state universities in the ranking of higher educational institutions of Georgia.The organization studies universities` scientific success, openness, and the influence of their online resources. The scientific criteria consider the citation of the university`s academic publications in the international scientific database. "Webometrics" carries out studies of the rankings of world universities twice a year and covers up to 31,000 higher educational institutions from more than 200 countries, including Georgia.

The Jean Monnet Summer School "Constitutional Democracy in the European Union: Main Challenges and Georgia" was opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. 30 students majoring in law, international relations, European studies and public administration from different universities of Georgia are participating in the summer school. The purpose of the four-day school is to provide young people with basic knowledge about EU institutions, mechanisms and processes in Georgia in terms of European integration.
